Steal my heart and hold my tongue.
I feel my time, my time has come.
Warning, this post may contain some spoilers on the movie,
The Amazing Spiderman by Marc Webb.
Where is the direction of today’s post going? Well its
starts with a Marvel comic turned movie which I had the joy of watching as an
exam ending celebration. Honestly blogging, I wanted to see the movie for the
sole purpose of watching Andrew Garfield jumping around in a tight suit. Plus I
like Emma Stone and I have always had a sense of happiness to watch comic
action movies.
So exam mode temporarily on for the comparison of themes between
The Amazing Spiderman directed by Marc Webb and Spiderman by Brett Ratner.
- Authority vs Media
So in the first Spiderman movie, the media or to be precise
the newspaper, The Daily Bugle was the medium that perceived Spiderman as a no
good scumbag who was working with the Green Goblin. It was the media that
perceived him as bad. While in the Amazing Spiderman, it was the police
community and especially Captain George that thought he was an immature punk.
- The growth from a teenager to a superhero
So in both movies, after Peter gets his powers and started
to explore his capabilities. What attracted him to go into the field of
superheroes was his vengeance towards the killer of Uncle Sam. But in the
Amazing Spiderman we saw that he didn’t immediately turn into this heroic
figure. We forgot that in the end, Peter Parker is just an ordinary teenager.
So when he got his powers, he was this arrogant punk thinking he was better than
everyone. He thought he was doing the city a favor but realized he was not much
help. Only after saving the life of a helpless kid did he see the true extent
of his responsibility as a super human. That is when Peter Parker with spider
like powers, turned into Spiderman the hero.
- Spiderman is still a man (just with extra powers)
The Amazing Spiderman showed us that at the end of the day,
Spiderman is pretty much human. He fights bad guys and yes, he still gets hurt
and injured. No war fight is endured without a few battle wounds. The Amazing
Spiderman really showcased that, making the movie more believable because even
superheroes get tired. So when Spiderman got wounded pretty badly, it can be
seen that he had trouble moving and using his powers due to this weak state.
- The power of the people
Towards the end of the movie, a very injured and wounded
Spiderman attempt to kill the villain but is not able to reach him at the other
side of town. There is when we see the power of the people who help him guide and
aid his way across town to the Oscorp building. It shows that the citizens of
NY are concerned for their city hero and helped him during a time of need
because at the end of the day, they understand that behind that mask is just a
guy.
- The story behind the past of Peter Parker
The director of the Amazing Spiderman had the time during
this film to show us the back story behind Peter’s family. Peter had parents
who loved him just like any other parent but had to leave him due to important
and dangerous circumstances. We then see why Peter is always trying to find who
he really is and why he has so much anguish and uncertainty in him. Obviously
his parent’s departure had a big impact on the person that he’s become and the
person he wants to be.
So I
liked the Amazing Spiderman better. Better back story, more logical and best of
all, more emotion. Plus Andrew Garfield’s awkwardness is such a turn on. Hoped
you guys liked it as much as I did. Definitely one of the best movies of 2012.
Sorry if I gave away some scenes.
